River Surfing in Oregon with Elijah Mack & Kevin Ludwig

January 14, 2015

Oregon River Surfing

"I made this video to celebrate my close friend Kevin Ludwig and the amazing spirit he puts into river surfing. The saying "walk a mile in my shoes" is all I ever think of when I see Kevin's very genuine smile. The shit this guy has been through would break even the toughest people. To see him to go from a young healthy vibrant man to almost death and now back again has been one hell of a ride for me, so imagine what it must of been like for Big Kev. I have watched this young man from the start of his river surfing adventures. He is an expert snowboarder and the transition into river surfing was a bit frustrating for him. He is used to launching off 30ft cliffs on a snowboard, so just trying to nail catching a wave let along stand up was humbling for him but he never took the easy way out. When I recommend he get a bodyboard and ride that to get wave knowledge he didn't blink. He has NEVER put a leash on his leg and that can be a very difficult choice when your searching the Oregon rivers alone and your a novice river surfer. But instead of taking the easy way, Kevin did it right. He has swam over a mile a number of times to chase down his board. The day before this video was shot we went to Lake Creek which was massive and Kevin did everything right when faced with some heavy shit. Jay Andrew killed it too!!! smile emoticon It was a great trip. In this video you will see what Kevin calls the best ride of his river surfing life. It gives me great joy to share this video. Kevin is true pioneer in river surfing and one of the toughest kindest people on earth. Love you brother! Aloha"  - Elijah Mack
