Easier said than done here are Hunter's 3 quick tips on how to get air:
Step 1: Get as far back in the wave as you can
Step 2: Charge towards the boat by pumping or leaning forward
Step 3: Carve to the top of the wave, and jump off the lip. Throw your hands up so your body follows and then suck your knees to your chest.
